BIG VIEW REDUX

Ok, as previously stated... I love Big View. That said, why was getting an egg white omelette with spinach and mushroom and nothing else so difficult?
Omelette #1      Western eggwhite Omelette
Omelette #2      Spinach Mushroom Egg white Omelette with CHEESE
Omelette #2       Spinah Mushroom Egg white Omelette CORRECT
Why 3 times I inquired of my friend and owner Frank?  He said that omelette's are generally
served with cheese.
The dictionary defines an Omelette as follows:
(Cookery) a savoury or sweet dish of beaten eggs cooked in fat
[from French omelette, changed from alumette, from alumelle sword blade, changed by mistaken division from la lemelle, from Latin (see lamella); apparently from the flat shape of the omelette]
Do I now have to specifically say "no cheese?"
I am already telling the folks at Starbucks no milk, after I told them no room.
Anyway, I still love Big View... with or without the cheese:)

Banned on Urban Spoon

So Cafe Really opens in Charlotte recently. Great idea that they are open 24hr on the weekend. This is a location where 2 other restaurants failed. We just had to go back and give it a try. What can I say...
THE FLIES, THE FLIES, THOSE DAMN FLIES".  This statement was banned on Urban Spoon because they said it was a Health Dept. issue. Duh...
I guess it doesn't matter what we ordered, the damn flies were just too annoying. I ordered the grilled veggies on a skewer. They were almost raw. I asks waiter where the grill marks were. He just shook his head, shrugged his shoulders and asked if I wanted them to do it again. Why bother I  said.
Judy's club sandwich was fine.
Oh, and then there is the backrest of the booth. Every time the guy behind me leans back, I get pushed forward. I knew this was not going to be a fun lunch.
Every restaurant deserves a second chance, but I can't bring myself to go back because of this damn flies. By the way, the 2 previous restaurants also had those same damn flies.

Blue Taj

After going to see "Return of the Planet of the Apes? (great movie), we decided to search for a new restaurant. We ended up at Blue Taj, which we actually ate at once before.
When we walked in, I see a bunch of empty tables. The "hostess" asks if we have a reservation. I said no. She doesn't say a word, stares at the computer for about 2 minutes, walks away and returns in a few minutes and quietly says "follow me". A bit of a turnoff. We sat down looked at the menu. Judy decides to have the vegetable pekora and the chicken Biryani.  I order the vegetable appetizer and asked the waiter for his suggestion for a chicken dish with no cream. He makes a suggestion and then asked "on a scale of 1-5 what temp do you like?" I say 3. Judy's appetizer comes out. It looks great and she likes it. My veggies come out all breaded. I apologize to the waiter and say that I don't eat fried foods. He takes at away. the main course arrives, and things are looking really good. One taste says that they know what they're doing. Then the waiter ( from Nepal) tells me that the next time we come in, he will make sure I get the right veggies that are grilled. I said "Thanks, how about now?"  Within 10 minutes I have crunchy veggies done right. The waiter really put a great touch on this venue. We WILL come back. btw, it's the next morning and I still think I taste the great sauce.

Lemme hear from you

Hi everybody. I know I can't be the only one with comments about restaurants, waiters and the food.
Chime in and let me know your pet peeve. Remember.... you are not alone

Big View Diner

We love this place. First of all, it's in the neighborhood
Second of all, the food is just GOOD.  They do what a diner should do. Serve a wide variety of
food to please lot's of people.  And I love the guys that own Big View. Angelo and Frank are professionals. This is not the first restaurant they own, and it shows.  Always a personal greeting at our table when they see us sitting there. The great treatment we get there, is the same great treatment they offer to all of their diners. Either that, or my tipping is to generous.
Look for Russell the waiter. Very professional and adds some humor to the dining experience.
Instead of the normal "Have you been here before", Russell said... "I've seen you here many times"
Back to the food, with my strange diet, I always move towards the Chicken... and their Greek Chicken is just.... well it's just great. A wonderful lemon flavor with olives and artichokes. I have them hold the mashed potatoes and substitute with the garlic Bok Choy. This is a real treat.
If you haven't been there, give it a try the next time you are in Blakeney, and say hi to Angelo and Frank!

This is just the beginning

Every since Judy and I moved here from New York, we have been amazed at some of things that
take place in the restaurants here in Charlotte. That doesn't mean that they are all bad (imho), but just different. Ok... some of them are really bad.
At the end of the meal when the Manager asks if everything is ok, I always let them know... both
good and bad. That has made us more friends than not.
Stay tunes for more, and please if you want to share your "dining" experiences here in Charlotte or elsewhere, chime in.

Waiter speaks

Everytime we sit down for a meal at a restaurant, we can almost guess the what the waiter will say. As a matter of fact, I mouth the words as they are spoken.
"Hi I'm_________ and I'll be your server"
I say "Hi I'm Steve and I will be your eater"
They say "Is this the first time you're here?"
I say " no, you served me last week Do I get something for coming back?"
I think this all goes to the wait staff being told to engage the customer, but this sure
gets old very quickly. Am I the only that feels this way?
